The Most Successful Cars in the World

When it comes down to the point when we have to define what "successful" stands for in the automotive world, it is quite simple, success means lots of sales. The ever increasing competition and lowered profitability directly resulted in continuous losses per sold car recorded by the leading car manufacturers.
This situation was caused by multiple reasons - starting from the expensive labor and costs of restructuring to manufacturing deficiencies caused by trying to present the whole range of new cars as soon as possible, which inevitably led to many withdrawals and expensive corrections of the cars. With all this, still some cars managed to win the buyers' trust all around the world. Various generations of cars such as the Toyota Corolla, the Volkswagen Golf or the Honda Civic became more and more popular and sold in higher quantities.
The Ford Model T is the 5th most successful car ever produced as it was sold in a large number of 16,500,000 cars, and it is the second bestselling car in the world at this moment. This is the very first car that was produced on an assembly line, which greatly simplified the entire process of making cars and most important, it was significantly more affordable and could be produced in large quantities. There is a famous line that Henri Ford said about the T model: "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black" since, due to the fast production of those days, no other color could dry as fast as black.
At number 4 we have the Volkswagen Beetle, a car that has been around for 6 decades and it is the bestselling car in the world. VW sold approximately 21,529,464 cars which stands for something when we take into consideration that during these 6 decades, these cars were produced basically with the same car body and with some minor mechanical changes. The first and original design of the Beetle was manufactured until 2003, when the last car left the Mexico factory. After that, VW started producing the New Beetle, which is an up-to-date version of the original model. It is still selling quite well during present.
At third place we have another Volkswagen, the Golf, which is a very popular model in Europe, but lower ranked on the most important market, the North American one. There are 6th generations of Golf and VW sold about 24 million cars. The original model was produced starting with 1974 and the GTI sports version recently celebrated its well-deserved 30th birthday.
At second place we have the F series Ford which is in fact, and this must come as a surprise for you, the most sold car at the moment. With other words, a pick-up vehicle is the second ranked in total sales. And all these impressive figures were obtained only in North America. As of this moment, Ford sold more than 25 million F Series.

At number one we have the Toyota Corolla, which is the bestselling car in the automotive world. It debuted in 1966 and since then it had 9 generations. Toyota sold a whopping 35 million vehicles and analysts say that it will remain number one for a good amount of time in the future.
